My name is Courtney Melcher, and I am the President of the Sigma Epsilon chapter of Kappa Delta. This chapter has given me so much over the past three years, and I truly could not be more grateful to be a Kappa Delta sister. I have learned so many skills both as a leader and as a member of this chapter, and I know that this will be an experience that I'll hold onto and be proud of forever. Serving as Secretary last year and now as Chapter President has allowed me to see again and again how the amazing sisters in this chapter can change our world with their ambition, strength, and compassion.
At Sigma Epsilon, we pride ourselves on our sisterhood, philanthropy, leadership and academics. We are currently recognized by Kappa Delta Nationals as a Merit Chapter, meaning that we are in the top ten percent of all 165 Kappa Delta chapters in the nation. I am also proud to say that last year we raised over $60,000 for our philanthropies: Prevent Child Abuse America and the Center for Child Protection in Austin. In addition to donating money, we also get the chance to provide hands on volunteer work with local Girl Scout troops.
We consistently have one of the highest GPAs out of all of the Panhellenic sororities on campus and take great pride in our academic programming. We have mandatory study hours for our members and offer a large portfolio of scholastic support for all of our sisters. We also encourage our members to be involved in organizations outside of Kappa Delta and hold leaderships positions on campus. I personally dedicate most of my time outside of Kappa Delta to a local animal shelter, Austin Pets Alive, where I am a medical volunteer. We also have Kappa Deltas involved in Texas Orange Jackets, Student Government, Texas 4000, and many other pre-professional and service-based organizations.
Most of all, we strive to instill confidence in each other and everyone around us. We truly are a loving and encouraging sisterhood. This sisterhood has served as a backbone to my many college experiences, and for that I am forever grateful.
